Lifetime Discount Scheme is launched

Everyone likes to be appreciated and to know their custom is valued and so to show our customers, new and old, our appreciation we have launched a Lifetime Discount Scheme.

Our discounts do not have an expiry date, once you have achieved a qualifying spend threshold the discount will automatically be applied to your order and each order thereafter – all the customer needs to do is ensure that they use the same email address when placing orders with us as the email address is automatically monitored to calculate the accrued spend.*

Discounts become applicable when the customers accrued qualifying spend, excluding carriage, reaches £150.00 and has three tiers in total with the discount increasing at each new threshold.  It does not matter if the customer does not order regularly the system will remember you and you will receive an email confirming when you reach a new discount level.  Please note refunds and partial refunds will be deducted from the accrued spend as appropriate.

The discount scheme is available to customers using the website or placing orders by telephone and  is not limited to UK customers only it is open to all our customers, as a thank you for their continued custom.

Chandelier Refurbishment

With the passing of the Christmas season you may be looking at your chandelier and thinking it is looking a little tired and sorry for it’s self.  Refurbishing your chandelier does not need to be expensive as it is not a full restoration, just a little TLC.

If you didn’t get a chance to clean your chandelier in the lead up to the festive season this can instantly transform the chandelier.  It also gives you a chance to check over the chandelier to make sure that all the crystals are in place and undamaged; you will also be able to see any that need re-pinning.

Replacing the odd crystal does not need to be expensive, we do not have a minimum order value on our website and our chandelier pins are available in small cost effective packs as well as larger quantities for a full chandelier restoration.  Dependant on the chandelier crystals and buttons that you are looking for you will find in both our antique  and modern chandelier parts that some are available in pack sizes as well as singles.

Whilst cleaning your chandelier you can check to see if any of the candle tubes need replacing or you may wish to change the style and colour of your candle tubes to revitalise the look of your chandelier – again you do not need to place a minimum order our candle tubes are available in singles as well.

Of course when cleaning your chandelier check your bulbs are all working correctly.

REMEMBER when cleaning your chandelier ensure the electrical supply is switched off, do not expose the electrics to liquids and move yourself and your ladder around the chandelier do not turn the chandelier to you – you may unscrew the fixings.

 

 

 

 

 

Points to remember when buying a chandelier

This blog has been prompted by a lovely lady that I spoke to several times last week who is currently refurbishing business premises and had purchased several chandeliers and lanterns (not from King’s Chandelier Services Ltd as she did not find us until after her chandeliers were delivered and she realised she had a problem!).  Whilst speaking to her we realised that the problem she was facing was a far more common issue than she or other clients realised and we were able to reassure her that she was not the only person to face these challenges when purchasing chandeliers.

When chandeliers are purchased from ourselves we will ensure that the client has chain that is sufficient to carry the weight of the chandelier together with a ceiling rose ceiling plate hook that is the correct weight loading capacity for the combined weight.  If we are not installing the chandelier we will discuss with the client or their chandelier installer the components they require to ensure that they have everything required to install their chandelier, however not all chandelier suppliers offer this service and if you purchase from a private source it may only be the chandelier itself that is sold, not the chain and fixings.

We have found, as in the case of our client last week, not everyone is aware of what is required for the installation of a chandelier and so we thought a blog offering some guidance may be useful to potential (and existing) chandeliers owners.

When you decide that you wish to purchase a chandelier, lantern etc for your property there are the standard things you need to consider as you would for any lighting: is it suitable for the room and the rooms purpose, ensuring you purchase the right style and size – remember you also need to consider the depth of the chandelier and how low you wish this to hang in the room, if you have high ceilings you may want to have the chandelier hanging lower than in a standard room and if your property has low ceilings you need to take this into consideration as well.

Once you have chosen the style and size chandelier and make your final selection this is when you need to think about how you are installing the chandelier and what components you need.

The first thing you need to find out is the weight of your chandelier, a light weight chandelier is relatively easy to install but heavier chandeliers need more consideration.  Are you going to install the chandelier yourself or have it professionally installed?

If you are using a professional company to install your chandelier you will need to discuss the components that you require and whether they are going to supply these for you or if you need to source these yourself.

Questions to ask yourself:-

  • Does your chandelier come with existing chain?  If yes is it the correct length for your requirements? chandelier chain
  • If you chandelier does  not come with chain or if you wish to extend the chain you need to know the weight of the chandelier.  To work out which chandelier chain to purchase you need to remember that the chain needs to take its own weight as well as that of the chandelier so please if the chandelier weighs 19 kgs do not purchase a chain that has a maximum weight loading of 20kg go for a chandelier chain that takes somewhat more – better to be safe than sorry.

  • Does your chandelier come with a ceiling rose and chandelier fixing hook?   • Does your chandelier come with a fixing hook or loop on the actual chandelier, if not you will need to determine the thread size of the threaded rod running through the centre of the chandelier.  Dependant on the weight of the chandelier as to which components you would need to use for us to assist in choosing a part from our website we would recommend emailing us photos and details of weight etc to info@kingschandeliers.co.uk
  • Finally one other item to consider, that is often over looked, does your chandelier need additional electrical cable.  Many chandeliers are sold with minimal electrical cable and if you are having a considerable drop from the ceiling to the chandelier you may need to extend the electrical cable.  We have a wide selection of 3 core and 2 core electrical cables suitable for chandeliers, lanterns and lights braided electrical cables

One final tip for this blog, as I get asked this regularly – how do I weigh my chandelier – if you can lift the chandelier weigh yourself and then weigh yourself holding the chandelier and take one away from the other and this will give you an estimated weight of your chandelier (dependant on how accurate your scales are); then add a bit onto the weight to allow for inaccuracies due to using domestic scales.  If you cannot lift the chandelier we would assume you are using a professional chandelier installation company and they will have the equipment needed to weigh this on your behalf.

Royal Mail Proposed Industrial Action – CANCELLED

Further to our blog yesterday, below, advising our customers that we were preparing to ensure that orders would be dispatched during proposed Royal Mail Industrial Action we are pleased to advise that Royal Mail have advised that the action has been cancelled following their High Court action and so it is business as usual.

We will of course continue to monitor this and are signed up to receive regular updates of any disruptions that may be caused in the future by either industrial action, bad weather etc to ensure that disruption to our customers is as limited as possible.

It has been in the news during the last week that industrial action is planned by Royal Mail workers for 48 hours commencing 19th October 2017 and we have been following this at King’s Chandelier Services Ltd, like many other internet sales companies, since the action was announced.

To try and minimise disruption to our customers we have been in discussions with Royal Mail and courier companies.  At present Royal Mail are advising that whilst the action has been announced it may not be carried out, they have taken the matter to the High Court and await the ruling on this.  Their website advises that should the action go ahead they do have a contingency plan in place BUT they have not yet announced what those plans are!

If the worst case scenario of the dispute taking place occurs we have been advised as a business that Royal Mail will not collect our post on Thursday 19th October and Friday 20th October  and this is what we are basing our contingency on until Royal Mail publicise their own plans.

If you are placing an order with King’s Chandelier Services Ltd that you require for the latter part of next week we would recommend that you try and place your order as soon as possible to allow dispatch before any postal disruptions begin.  We would expect that it will take Royal Mail a few days to catch up on themselves following any industrial actions and we are awaiting confirmation of any disruption caused to post dispatched mid-week.

Chandelier Bobeche Replacement – FAQ’s

As one of the largest UK stockist’s of vintage and antique chandelier replacement parts we obviously get a lot of calls asking for guidance when choosing a replacement chandelier part.  This article covers the most frequently asked questions when choosing replacment bobeche.

Q.  Are the bobeche on your website reproduction or genuine antique parts
A.  We specialise in antique chandelier parts but we do sell new chandelier parts – please do not worry about ordering a new part in error these are shown in a totatally separate area of the website.

Q. What dimensions do I need to know before I start searching for a replacement bobeche?
A.  It is important to know the size of the centre hole to ensure that the replacement bobeche will fit over your chandelier arm and sit correctly.  You also need to know the overall dimension of the bobeche – it may not be too much of an issue if it differs by a few millimetres but you do not want a replacement that is significantally smaller or larger.

Q. I have found a bobeche on your website but it has less pin-holes than mine – can you drill more pin holes for me?

Where possible we will try to restore chandeliers rather than sell off the parts so usually it is limited to small numbers which will show on our website however the listings are updated regularly so if you find one that is suitable but it is showing out of stock we will not normally be able to give a restock date but would suggest keeping an eye on our site.
